Mountains never meet, but people do
Desirous to discover the country where I have been living for the past two years and
seeking encounters with strangers along the path, I let the road guide me through new
horizons. The countryside, its infinite flat lands, the smell of the soil, the fog, the sea,
farmers, and fishermen. Eventually, all those elements reminded me of where I grew up.
Sometimes when we explore different landscapes, encounters, and experiences, we end
up in places that strangely remind us of home.
32,5 km of the bridge connects North Holland to the region called Friesland. Once I cross
the dam, I find myself in a place where life rhythm and time seem to have another value,
just like my photographic process, slow and considered.
‘Mountains never meet, but people do’ is a project about Friesland’s landscape, the
people that live there, and my own experience, which often reminded me of home. My trip
starts when I step outside and ask for rides to people to reach Friesland, sleeping outside
and photographing the light falling over the landscape.

What do you discover while walking around the edge of a city?
I have forever been fascinated by industrial areas. Iʼm captivated by the desire to enter big factories and containers that have travelled around the world. I look at the lines and the geometry, both guiding my journey, opening up a new landscape for me. I search for traces of residue in the industrial scenery of Cologne, shifting my point of view by using a more abstract and less direct language.
