With a questioning attitude, I have weaved a personal narrative together through the role of photography in contemporary society. I noticed how often club culture is either under or over-exposed by the rise of the internet. For a few years, clubs introduce no-photo policies to create a sense of freedom. What happens to the future memories of queer communities when there is no photographic archive of queer clubbing culture? This is a place in time where memorable moments are not translated. An irreplaceable feeling is lost in time. With my work, I bring to light the fantasies of club kids in staged scenes. Bodies bloom, and identities unfold. Using a poetic rhythm, I shift the lens to a queer perspective and comment on visibility.
Scents are able to trigger memory in a way no other sense can.But what does smell look like?
„I have discovered a scent that reminds me of a spring morning in Italy, of mountain narcissus, of orange blossom just after the rain“
Encountering people in Cologne, I confront them with their own Eau. As they tell me about memories of the freshness of water, of the flowers in spring, of the greenery around – imagines appear in my mind. Gathering memories, I find emotions. We enter a conversation – one in which they explain, and I visualize. Photographs are what remains.
„It gives me great refreshment, strengthens my senses and imagination.“
– Giovanni Maria Farina, 1708
